Bloody Hell So I finally saw the Spire yesterday. It was dark so I did not see it as its best. It is amazing and I say "Whisht!" to the naysayers.
Vinnie and I had arranged to meet there and go out for dinner. If you will excuse the pun, Vinnie was inspired while he was waiting for me beside the giant needle and suggested that we go and give blood. As this was one of my New Year's Resolutions I agreed.
However, they wouldn't let me because I got my belly button pierced less than a year ago - goddammit. So Vinnie had to go through the whole thing all on his own. And there we were with this romantic notion that we could give blood and hold hands and smile at each other and think "Ah! What good citizens we are!". Chances are in August there will be other reasons why I can't give blood...!
What a coinkydink! In a bizarre twist, who did we meet there but my colleague Fiona. I mean the chances of that happening. Neither she nor I had ever been there before. And before, dear reader, you start to say things like we must have been discussing it, it was also FIona's fella who suggested they go. He has donated before. Fiona chickened out!

Smokin! The government are making noises again about banning smoking in all workplaces including pubs:
Minister to ban smoking in all public houses and restaurants
By Eithne Donnellan, Health Correspondent
An outright ban on smoking in pubs and restaurants is to be announced today by the Minister for Health, Mr Martin. The ban, which will cause outrage among publicans and smokers alike, will be announced at the launch in Dublin of a report on the ill-effects on health of passive smoking in the workplace.
Hopefully they will do something about it - I've just been having a cup of tea with two smoking colleagues and the stink off me. Yeuchh

Lotto life So we have yet to win the lotto. In the meantime, it breaks my heart that the bank are charging me 28c everytime I undertake an online transaction. Can you believe the stingy shits charge me to use my time and resources to do their work. When I win the lotto I am going to set up my own bank...
AND it still takes three days to process a Visa payment made online. Good jesus!

Cus I can Just got an e-mail from my cousin Aoife - she is a photographer and is a bit miffed that one of my seriously amateur and really quite bad quality pix was published in the Irish Times last week. In her shoes, (or should I say behind her lens) I would be seriously miffed at me too but can I help it if I have connections...?
Beck off There were 3 - THREE!!! - "news" stories about David Beckham in the Examiner today. For all journos reading this - a footballer in an ad for a soft drink or any other product is not news. Mind you neither is Zoe Ball's marital status but I still read about it.
Baltic Lads it is freezing out there! A few snowflakes on the way to work and apparently snow forecast for tomorrow.
Up Waherfawd I see in the paper today that Waterford County Council have introduced very strict new bye laws about recycling. Oh some day Dublin Cockup Council will do the same and we won't have to drive to a "bring station" to recycle our glass and plastic. You would think living in Rathgar things could be a bit more civilised.
In other news, however, our cheque for 80 yoyos arrived from them. Even though our appeal was successful Dublin CiCo pointed out they will never entertain another appeal. Of course they didn't explain what we should do if we get another new car in the next two years.

Survival of the fittest: On the way to work today it struck me that all cyclists would do well to realise that we are not competing against each other. I have some fairly nasty encounters with other cyclists lately. Asking people nicely to move out of my way so I can get past because I am fitter than them and can move faster than 1 mile an hour - the abuse! Many mornings as I weave my way through the crazed commuters aroung Stephen's Green I feel like shouting to the other cyclists: "C'mon! Critical mass! Critical mass!" but I know they might not understand.

So I have been shuffling through my brain trying to think of the best way to represent it. I have also been trying to think up some cute ways to name thinngs. I was having a peak at some of the "blogs of note" on blogger.com and ladies I am way behind. But not for long.
Have just returned home from a night out with me fella at Vicar st. He brought me to see Pat Shortt (formerly of D'Unbelievables) and I would recommend it to anyone. Nuttin' like a good laugh, wha'? Das righ. Okay enough with the impressions.
On the way home I was thinking of Louise as we passed a crime scene - but no jokes aside. It was down near where she used to live near Clanbrassil street. In fact it was her dodgy local that had the tape around it... No doubt I will hear more about it on morning ireland tomorrow morning.
Got home and tried to ring Prof GF to wish her a happy birthday but she wasn't there or wasn't answering or as the song goes whatever. Off to drink tea, over and out.

Looking over press cuttings in work and I was reminded that I forgot to boast about this when it happened. My claim to fame last week was that photographs that I took were printed in national newspapers! One was in Foinse and the other in The Irish Times.
Sadly both of these papers would not be up to speed on publishing pix online but you can check them out here - this one was in the social column in Foinse (don't ask) - and here - this one was in The Irish Times. Their picture editor was none too pleased with the quality I would imagine.
I am off to buy a birthday present for Grattan. It's wet and blustery outside so I do not relish it.

Righto. Christmas snaps taken with the digital camera are here. Hours of fun with all the family what.
Will chuck up some more as I get with it.
Todays' exciting news is, that Vinnie and I have finally booked our ski-ing holiday. We are all set to go to Andorra.
It has been a bit of saga. To be honest I really wasn't sure if I wanted to go and between the jigs and the reels, we finally decided let's go to New York instead. I had given Vinnie tokens to learn ski-ing in Kilternan before we went away for his birthday last November. So we decided sure we'd go up to Kilternan for the laugh. Well 3 shots down the "piste" later and we were hooked. And we haven't even been on the "piste" proper!
Since then we have hummed and hawed and now finally tonight we booked online
So Andorra it is. If you have any comments let me know
